On October 1, 2006, Sojitz Corporation’s Lumber & Panel Marketing Department was merged into Sun Building Materials Corporation, which was then renamed Sojitz Building Materials Corporation. In both name and reality, we have made a new start as the Sojitz Group’s total building materials trading company.

Centered on the plywood market, where it boasts the industry’s leading trading volume, Sojitz Building Materials is active in a broad range of business fields, including lumber, building materials, home fittings, and construction materials and projects. In trading, a strategic area for the company, we are further enhancing our capabilities, which are founded on close ties with leading overseas suppliers built up through international plywood trading activities, and the Sojitz Group’s powerful global network. Leveraging these capabilities, we are focusing on a number of overseas projects centered on China, Malaysia and other parts of Asia to further expand trading volume. We are also taking a number of steps to reinforce Sojitz Building Materials’ position in the domestic plywood market. In building construction materials and projects-a feature of the company’s operations-we are targeting closer links with condominium development projects run by Sojitz, and using our integrated materials-to-construction capabilities, which cover materials sales and construction subcontracting work, to build an even stronger track record in the market.

Sojitz Building Materials remains committed to maintaining and growing the scale of its operations, one of the industry’s largest, as the nucleus of the Sojitz Group’s lumber and building materials businesses. At the same time, we aim to contribute to the development of the industry as a whole.
